I'm a hopeless romantic who smiles so much behind my camera that my cheeks hurt by the end of most of my shoots! I’m a wedding and family photographer, virtual storyteller, golden sunset-seeker, and the ultimate hype woman.
This wedding was particularly special to me for two reasons: 1) Kenzie and Daniel are such awesome people and I was so honored to be photographing their amazing wedding day, 2) because I got to cross something off my wedding photographer bucket list – fireworks!
These two are both known for being a little shy, or so they tell me. I don’t believe them AT ALL. After seeing how sweet, silly, and fun they were with each other all day long, I definitely came to the conclusion that any shyness they might feel does not apply to each other!
We spent the morning primping and getting ready for their Minneapolis wedding ceremony and then spent the rest of the day exploring downtown Stillwater with their bridesmaids and groomsmen. The reception was at JX Venue in Stillwater, and it was absolutely stunning! Every part of the day had me laughing and happy crying, and getting so excited for all the beautiful photos we were getting! (Especially the fireworks!)
Now, photographing fireworks is harder than it sounds. Partially it’s because the technical aspect of setting the camera and lighting just right takes a lot of know-how and a lot of patience (not to mention an amazing assistant!). But, mostly, it’s hard because there just aren’t fireworks that often, and especially not in places where I am shooting weddings. And that’s where we got lucky!
There just so happened to be an event in Stillwater the night of Kenzie and Dan’s wedding. I’ll admit that when I first heard about this I wasn’t excited, because that meant there would be a lot of traffic around the wedding and we might have a hard time finding photo spots. That worry turned to delight as I researched the event and realized there will be fireworks in the evening. I checked in with Kenzie and Daniel about sneaking out for some epic fireworks photos, and they were all for it!
