I'm a hopeless romantic who smiles so much behind my camera that my cheeks hurt by the end of most of my shoots! I’m a wedding and family photographer, virtual storyteller, golden sunset-seeker, and the ultimate hype woman.
I absolutely LOVE the North Shore of Minnesota, especially with a stunning view of the Split Rock Lighthouse. It is the perfect place for a surprise proposal like this one.
Anywhere on Lake Superior is going to have a beautiful backdrop for photos, but there is something particularly special about proposing at the Split Rock Lighthouse on the North Shore. Just imagine asking the person you love most to spend forever with you surrounded by endless blue skies and lake water, listening to the soft sound of waves crashing onto the nearby shore, with the smell of evergreen trees around you. I mean, really.
I couldn’t have imagined a better couple to fit in with an environment like that. Colin and Eileen were so kind, fun, and adventurous and definitely deserve every moment of happiness headed their way!
One of the most amazing things about this proposal is that Collin proposed with the ring that had belonged to Eileen’s grandmother’s! (Fun fact: she also shares that same grandmother’s name!)
Collin and I planned for weeks to execute the perfect surprise proposal for Eileen. With the unpredictable April snow we had been getting, I wasn’t sure where on the North Shore we’d have access to Split Rock Lighthouse. Luckily, mother nature totally cooperated with Plan A, so we had the perfect view for the proposal.
I was in place undercover as a tourist who happened to bring a couple of very nice cameras on a hike by the lake, which worked out perfectly. I waited (very excitedly) in place for them to find me. When they got to me, I asked them to take a photo of me with the lighthouse in the background. In exchange, I was of course willing to take a photo of them with my nice camera! I placed them in the most beautiful location and just waited, camera in hand. Boom, surprise proposal!
And, of course, Eileen said yes!
We stuck around for a mini engagement photo shoot after the proposal, because obviously we needed more beautiful photos to celebrate the occasion. (And to pop some champagne I was hiding in my camera bag for them!)
Take a look at all the beautiful moments we captured!
